Family Leadership Learning Community

NTTAC’s Family Leadership Learning Community (FL LC) is a welcoming virtual space where Statewide Family Networks, Lead Family Coordinators, and family leaders from Family-Run Organizations, systems of care, and county/state roles can learn together, share ideas, and strengthen their work supporting families and system change. The FL LC helps strengthen family leadership, expand family leader roles and opportunities, and provide easy-to-use strategies and tools that can be implemented in individual organizations, with community partners, and in support of the families served.

We offer a series of online sessions, facilitated by national lived experience experts from FREDLA, to help build skills, spark new ideas, and support family leader professional development, implementation of family-driven care, and program or organizational growth. These topical presentations from subject matter experts well-versed in the chosen topics are structured to be interactive, grounded in group norms established by members, and inclusive of both peer learning and learning from subject matter experts. These include:

Office Hours

Practical Resources

  1. Build confidence and skills as family leaders through learning practical strategies for leading family-run programs, engaging in policy and decision-making groups, and strengthening the impact of their SFN, organization and programs.
  2. Explore ways to broaden and enhance Parent Peer Support (PPS) such as expanding into new settings, effective use of your data, or identifying new funding pathways—and will gain tools to strengthen PPS programs, support PPS staff and share the value of PPS within their community and state.
  3. Learn and improve together through shared experience by engaging in peer discussions and problem-solving activities that help them identify solutions, improve quality, and take steps toward positive changes in their local systems and communities.

Learning forums, 90-minute meetings, focus on topics relevant to family leaders, Statewide Family Network recipients, and their work. Learning forums are open to all Learning Community participants. Participants connect with peers across the country to learn from one another’s successes,  challenges, and creative solutions.

Family Leadership Learning Community breakdown. Starts with the Learning Community, then breaks down to Learning Forums (Webinars), and then SFN PD/FRO Leader Peer Practice Circles (includes office hours, message board, and resources).

Peer Practice Circles are small, role-aligned 60-minute discussions that follow each Learning Forum meeting with opportunities to reflect on the Forum presentations, share challenges and solutions, and learn from peers serving in similar functions. The Circles are a dedicated space for family leaders to engage in peer-to-peer mentorship and collective problem solving. These meetings are not recorded in order to encourage complex discussions.
